Our
first event of the month was the re-scheduled mini break to the
North East. It was originally booked for September but unfortunately
it coincided with The Queen’s funeral and had to be postponed.
Led
by Martin and Brenda we drove to Tebay, through Kirkby Stephen then on to
Selset Reservoir where we were met by Les and Christine who then guided us
to our coffee stop at Eggleston Hall Gardens. It was then on to the Locomotion
Museum at Shildon, the home of the first steam locomotion to pull a
passenger train. After absorbing as much information on pistons and springs as
we could and more refreshments we set off for Walworth Castle Hotel which
was to be our home for two days. The following day was a “free” day and
places visited were the Beamish Living Museum, Raby Castle and the Bowes Museum
at Barnard Castle, so there was plenty to talk about over dinner that evening!
As Les and Christine lived locally they kindly invited us for coffee the next
morning before we set off for home. Thank you Christine and Martin for
organising a very enjoyable trip - even the rain held off until halfway
home!!
Our
Sunday run was a visit to the Royal Border Regiment Museum at Carlisle Castle,
which was Roger’s idea. Five cars left Sizergh and took the scenic A6 to the
coffee stop at Lowther Castle where we were joined by a sixth car. It was then
on to Carlisle, via Penrith, Sebergham and Dalston, where everyone enjoyed
their time at the museum. The day ended with a very nice meal at the Duke of
Cumberland, Castle Carrock. Despite the heavy rain a good day was had by all!
Thanks Roger and Sue.
