September started with our club meeting.  Deposits were paid by members going to Ireland next May.

 Our club run was a short one, the destination being the creamery at Hawes. Five cars were lead by Jim & Maz along the A65 towards Ingleton where we would turn left and join the B6255 through the Ribble Valley then on to Hawes.  It was all going really well until we found ourselves mingling with hundreds of cyclists doing the 3 Peaks Challenge …….and it had started to pour down. We picked our way through drenched cyclists, support cars, and spectators as far as as the  Ribblehead Viaduct where they all went “off road” which left us to enjoy the rest of the journey unhindered……..and the rain stopped!!!  After coffee we couldn’t  leave without first sampling all the delicious cheeses on offer. We left Hawes taking the A684 towards  Sedbergh turning right at Garsdale Head to Nateby, then to The Kings Head at Ravenstonedale for lunch. We returned home via Tebay and the A685 parting company at Kendal. Another “Grand Day Out”.                                                Sue

How time flies when you’re having fun.  We are almost into September and still working our way through our “to do” list for this year.  As well as having our monthly  meeting we also had another “tulip" run on the 21st kindly organised, once again, by Roger and Sue.  Six cars met at Roa Island at the southern tip of the Furness Peninsula.  The weather was fair so with trips reset and tulip instructions at the ready we set off through the lanes and villages of Furness to Swarthmoor Hall.  Although we all arrived more or less at the same time we didn’t all take the same route !!!  Over coffee Roger assured us the next section would be a lot easier to follow, so off we went again. From Swarthmoor the route took us over Kirkby Moor, where we were rewarded with spectacular views over the Duddon Estuary and the Lakeland Fells, on to Broughton,  Lowick, along the east side of Coniston Water,  Hawkshead, Sawrey then finally arriving at The Farmers Arms for lunch.  A big thank you to Roger and Sue for organising a fabulous day out and we look forward to the next one.

I was on holiday for the first 2 weeks in July so much of this report is using second hand information. July started with the Leighton Hall classic car show. The club was well represented, the weather was fair and a good time was had by all. Our monthly meeting was held on the 9th. The turnout was quite low due to it being the holiday period. There was a fundraising event held at High Newton on the 9th and club members Martin and Brenda. who are also residence, invited the club to line up some of our cars behind the club banner. It was a very successful event and despite the heavy rain over two thousand pounds was raised to go towards the repair of the village hall roof. On the 26th we repeated one of our favourite runs over the North Pennines to Middleton in Teesdale. Eight cars left Sizergh      towards Sedgwick our destination being Farfield Mill at Sedbergh. After our coffee break we took the A684 to Garsdale Head then drove north to Brough. The B6275 then guided through some beautiful scenery onto Middleton in Teasdale. A few miles further on we arrived at The Strathmore Arms at Holwick for lunch. After lunch it was on to Alston then the steep descent of Hartside. We joined the A6 at Penrith which took us back to Kendal and home. It was a very long day but nevertheless a very enjoyable one!   Sue
