It has long been a tradition in our club to replace our January meeting with a post Christmas lunch. This year 32 members met at The Newby Bridge Hotel for a very enjoyable carvery lunch. Our 2018 programme is in our diaries and we are looking forward to our first run  which is in February.   Whatever your MG plans are for this year ……..happy motoring!         

November 2017

It’s been another wet month here in Cumbria but it didn’t stop us from squeezing in another short run before the Christmas festivities. “Lets do something different” John said “you’ll need your wellies and a torch”.
 So on Sunday 26th 9 cars left Sizergh and headed for Ireby and The Green Farm Cafe for a coffee stop. From there we drove north through Kingsdale stopping at Yordas cave…….hence the need for wellies and a torch! Not visible from the road the entrance to the cave is down some stone steps. Wading  ankle deep in water and being careful not to bang our heads, we reached the Great Hall reaching some 60ft high. Using our torches we tried to make out some of the rock formations such as the “Pulpit" and “The Map of Wales”. Making our way to the back of the cave we came to the main attraction known as “The Chapter House”. Looking through a natural window in the rock we were met with a spectacular water fall cascading with full force into a circular chamber
After we’d finished exploring it was time to move onto Dent for lunch at The George and Dragon. Continuing north and with only a few miles to go the road conditions turned very icy and as there was already a car ahead of us in trouble we had no choice but to turn around and find an alternative route. This meant returning to Kirkby Lonsdale, north to Sedbergh then on to Dent arriving only half an hour later than planned.
 We were promised something different which turned into a great day out. Thanks to all concerned.

October 2017

We started October with our club meeting, spending most of the evening planning next year’s calendar. We also congratulated Mick and Barbara on their recent engagement. Our last planned run of the year was a “tulip” organised by John and Kathy. Eight cars left Sizergh and followed the A591 towards Windermere turning right at Ings to join the A592. Thick fog greeted us at the summit of Kirkstone Pass but soon cleared as we descended into Patterdale and Glenridding. Coffee was at The Royal Hotel at Dockray.  Resetting our trips, we continued onto Pooley Bridge then navigated our way through the lanes and villages west and east of the M6 finishing at The Black Swan Inn at Culgaith where we enjoyed a very good lunch.  From there we all made our own way home. September 2017

We’re well into autumn now but we still have 2 more runs to look forward to. We didn’t have a club run in August but some of our members participated in the Snowdon Run and enjoyed it so much they have already entered for next year.
 Some members also joined in the Potteries Run earlier this month with Martin & Brenda winning the prize for furthest travelled.
 Our monthly meeting was again well attended and plans are well under way for next years calendar.
 Roger and Sue had volunteered to organise a trip to North Yorkshire to include an overnight stop. We left Sizergh on 30th Sept for a leisurely drive to Darlington where we were to stay the night at Blackwell Grange. John And Alex lead the way along the A65 to Ingleton then through the beautiful Ribble Valley to Hawes, over Satron Moor to Low Row for lunch at The Punch Bowl Inn. It was then just a short drive to Darlington where we spent a very pleasant evening wining and dining. After breakfast we set off for the North Yorkshire Moors with Roger & Sue at the helm. After a coffee stop at the Rounton Farm shop we took a clockwise tour of the western half of the moors as far north as Danby then down to Rosedale, Hutton le Hole via Chimney Bank, Kirkbymoorside & finally finishing at Barrowby. Our journey home was via A684 to Kendal. Some went straight home whilst the remaining ended the weekend with a meal at Gilpin Bridge Inn.
 A big thank you to Roger & Sue for a most enjoyable weekend.
