On
the 3rd May 9 cars met at the Inveraray Inn, Inveraray for our annual weekend
holiday. Martin & Brenda had kindly volunteered to do all the
organising. Some members had their own plans and others formed small groups
using runs provided by Martin. The weather couldn’t have been better even if it
was a bit chilly, in fact there were reports of snow showers in Glencoe!
The rain held off and we all enjoyed the scenery and floral delights that
area of Scotland has to offer.
Then
all too soon it was over and on Monday the group split and 12 members went home
whilst six took the ferry from Mallaig to Skye. Staying in Portree a whole day
was spent exploring the north of the island. Leaving the island for home via
the bridge to Kyle of Lochalsh, the popular Bealach na Ba pass was driven to
Applecross. With stunning views it was well worth the detour. After an
overnight stop at Crainlarich it was time for home. A very memorable
holiday. Thanks to Martin and Brenda.
We
also had a run on the 13th. Just 3 cars met at Sizergh…I think members were
still recovering from Scotland! John and Alex took us through the back
roads round Kendal, passing Killington Lake to Sedbergh. Our coffee stop
was at Farfield Mill before taking the A684, turning left just before
Hawes to Hardraw then on to Carperby for lunch at the Wheatsheaf Inn. The
homeward journey was south on the B6160 to Cray then north to Hawes heading
home via Sedbergh. Thanks to John and Alex.
