November 2016

Our final outing of 2016 was titled “ Mystery Run” and was held on the 20th November. John B had kept us guessing for several months    as to the location and finally released the details a few days before the event. The weather conditions were ideal for a “frostbite” run….cold but sunny.  Four cars left Sizergh and four more were to meet us en route. We followed the A590 then the A591 to Grasmere for coffee at the Lancrigg Hotel. John and Alex had stumbled across this place on a return walk from Helm Crag and thought it would be ideal. It has lovely views of the Easedale Valley and the hills beyond, added to this there was a covering of snow which made the views even more stunning. It was time to move on to our lunch destination which was The Lakes Distillery at Bassenthwaite. The drive to Keswick is one of the most scenic in the Lake District plus the snow made it even more dramatic. Our route was straightforward apart from a detour along the west side of Thirlmere. We enjoyed a very tasty lunch but unfortunately didn’t have time for a tour of the distillery. Thank you John and Alex for a very enjoyable day. We can look back on a very successful year and look forward to another one next year.  Best wishes to all for 2017.

October 2016

As well as our monthly meeting there was a two day trip to Pendle with an overnight stop. I was unable to take part so I will hand over to Roger who kindly wrote the report for the Pendle trip.

On a pleasant autumn morning six cars led by Roger and Sue departed Sizergh Castle towards Kelbrook via a rather unconventional route!  We travelled through Sedbergh to Garsdale Station, over the Coal Road passing Dent Station and dropping down into Cowgill.  A light lunch was taken at the quirky Blind Beck Tearooms at Horton-in-Ribblesdale after which we proceeded to Austwick then over the Trough of Bowland to our destination. An excellent evening was spent at the Old Stone Trough where we celebrated Brenda's Birthday.
On a bright but cool Sunday morning we were joined by four members of the Burnley and Pendle MG Club and led again by Roger and Sue eight cars toured the Pendle Hill areas. A photo opportunity was taken with Alice Witch and after a visit to the Witches Galore Shop in Newchurch-in-Pendle we headed towards the Forest of Bowland taking in stunning scenery and villages.  A great weekend was had by all.Mick had a couple of issues and struggled to start his car a couple of times, we believe he has ordered some new parts !!!
We have just one planned event left on this years calendar which is a mystery run in November…….more of that next month.
From us all at Furness & South Lakes MG have a Very Merry Christmas!

September 2016

September started with our club meeting.  Deposits were paid by members going to Ireland next May.
Our club run was a short one, the destination being the creamery at Hawes. Five cars were lead by Jim & Maz along the A65 towards Ingleton where we would turn left and join the B6255 through the Ribble Valley then on to Hawes.  It was all going really well until we found ourselves mingling with hundreds of cyclists doing the 3 Peaks Challenge …….and it had started to pour down. We picked our way through drenched cyclists, support cars, and spectators as far as as the  Ribblehead Viaduct where they all went “off road” which left us to enjoy the rest of the journey unhindered……..and the rain stopped!!!  After coffee we couldn’t  leave without first sampling all the delicious cheeses on offer. We left Hawes taking the A684 towards  Sedbergh turning right at Garsdale Head to Nateby, then to The Kings Head at Ravenstonedale for lunch. We returned home via Tebay and the A685 parting company at Kendal. Another “Grand Day Out”.                                                Sue
