September 2018

As well as welcoming 4 new members at our last meeting we put our new venue choices to the vote. The result was inconclusive so it was decided to stay at the Strickland Arms.
Our monthly event was a visit to Ryedale Vineyard at Malton with an overnight stop which was arranged by John and Alex. On the 22nd four cars left Cafe Ambio at junct 36 of the M6 without a pre-planned route. John & Alex were leading and as the weather conditions were good so they decided to take the A65 to Ingleton then through Ribblesdale to Hawes. Resisting the urge to stop at the creamery we continued to Leyburn then on to Thirsk for lunch. It was commented on that the traffic was light and the weather good which made for a very pleasant drive. Leaving Thirsk and travelling over Sutton Bank we arrived at the vineyard to be welcomed by the owners. After a tour of the vineyard and a very interesting talk came the chance to taste the wines. Next came the afternoon tea which was “ out of this world”. Purchases were made before leaving for the Cresswell Arms at Malton. Still full of sandwiches, scones and cakes it was decided to cancel the pre-booked meal and stay at the hotel for drinks and a chat. Not having made plans for Sunday it was agreed, over breakfast, to visit Bolton Castle near Leyburn. After several pleasant hours viewing the castle and gardens it was home via Sedbergh.  Thanks to John and Alex for organising the trip and to John for help with the report.

August 2018

August started with our monthly meeting on the 7th. The main item up for discussion was a change of venue for our meetings. A few suggestions were put forward and hopefully a decision will be made at our next meeting.
There wasn’t a club run this month but seven cars joined the other 199 MG’s at Llandudno for the Silver Jubilee of the Snowdon MG Run. Jim had booked our accommodation, where we were to meet on Saturday the 18th. After registering and collecting our route books and plaques we had a very nice meal at the Empire Hotel, also pre -booked by Jim.
It was an early start on Sunday and after a hearty breakfast we joined the other MG’s on Llandudno promenade. The rain held off and with Tulips at the ready we were flagged off one by one by the Mayor and Mayoress of Llandudno. Our group made it to the finish venue at Betws-y-Coed in one piece where we bumped into members we knew from the Fylde MGOC. Congratulation to the Llandudno MGOC on a very well organised event.
We decided to return to Llandudno via the Llanberis Pass and ended the day with a meal at Romeos Italian restaurant. Before returning home on Monday we went up the Great Orme, some by cable car and some by tram. It wasn’t long before the mist descended so after some light refreshment we headed for home. We still have two more trips planned so more on that next month.   Thanks go to Jim who organised our stay in Llandudno.
